  Espírito Santo Basin
Geological Sketch

This basin is located along the coast of the central-north part of Espírito Santo state and south part of Bahia state. The southern limit of the basin is a geological feature known as the Vitória High, that separates it from the Campos Basin, whilst the northern boundary with the Cumuruxatiba Basin is only geographic. The total basin area up to the 3,000m isobath is 123,130 km² (17,900 km² onshore) and it is covered by a recent 2D seismic spec survey.

The 489 exploration wells drilled in the basin have resulted in the discovery of 52 hydrocarbon accumulations, 47 onshore and 5 on the continental shelf. Two recent discoveries include an onshore oil that was declared commercial, resulting in the Mosquito field, and an offshore, shallow water gas accumulation in the BFRD block that is under evaluation. The basin has an original proved volume of 71 MMm³ of oil and 9,000 MMm³ of gas.
